Reverse Osmosis is a water purification method. It is often referred to as a 5 stage filtering system because the water passes through 5 stages (steps) to purify it. You also get 6, 7 or even 8 stage systems and all this means is that extra stages or steps have been added.
Highly rated purification method
Reverse osmosis is a highly rated purification method because it is so effective. Testimony to its purity is the fact that it is often used in hospitals and labs where water purity is important.
Popular for home use
Its a popular system for home use because of the high quality of the water produced. Home is where the people that you love gather, so it makes sense to use a reputable water purifying method.
What are the 5 stages that the water passes through?
(Stage 1) 5 Micron sediment filter:
Removes sediment, rust dirt and other solid debris
(Stage 2) Activated carbon filter:
Removes chlorine and organic chemicals.
(Stage 3) 1 Micron sediment Filter :
With only 1 micro rating, it provides effective filtration to protect your membrane, and make it last longer.
(Stage 4) Reverse osmosis membrane
Removes water contaminates such as lead copper, barium, chromium, mercury, sodium, fluoride, nitrite and selenium.
The pores in the Reverse Osmosis membrane are about .0001 microns. To give you some perspective, the smallest bacteria is 0.02 micron
(Stage 5) Post-carbon filter
Polishes the water and enhances the taste.
Here’s a diagram that shows how it works
Where do I put it?
Usually in the cupboard under the kitchen sink. Its also popular under the prep bowl if you have one.
What maintenance is needed?
The filters are changed once a year. The membrane is changed every 3 years. This can vary according to the water quality and amount of water used.
Do you do the installation?
We are in Gauteng and install within a reasonable distance of this area. We courier or post the system to other area’s. The installation can then be done by a plumber or handyman.
